Most of the time I feel alive but dead at the same time. Feeling numb but also feeling free. This is the state I am in right now. This is me. I am an artist and I love drawing and painting and I just felt like black and white made it seem more real. I can’t shade good with crayons. I made myself smiling because that is the face I have the majority of the time. I was mostly raised in Ogden and the Ogden river is part of the weber river. When I feel alone at home I always go to the Ogden botanical gardens and I just sit and watch the Ogden river flow. Water is a gift that we need to take care of more often than we do. Water is our source of life we should appreciate all the water that surround us. soufrise* n. the maddening thrill of an ambiguous flirtation, which quivers in tension halfway between platonic and romantic – maybe but no, but maybe – leaving you guessing what’s going on inside their chest, forced to assume that at any given moment their attraction is both alive and dead at the same time. Weber Segment 3: Weber River Trips to Bromleys Canyon

This work is a story, it’s meant to tell you something things about me. At first glance I know it’s strange… I mean a dinosaur wearing a crown painting a smaller significantly simplified version of itself labeled ‘The King’. Upon first glance it may seem to be a satirical commentary on its name, Tyrannosaurus Rex, which translated from Latin is Tyrant Lizard King. Here’s where the story comes in; I have a love of archaic creatures, especially dinosaurs, and I decided to represent myself through said love of mine. The crown and matching title aren’t a crack at the critter I’ve chose to portray myself, rather they are showing a piece of myself. Tattooed upon my heart I have a small crown labeled ‘The King’. It serves as a reminder that I am worth something. I am strong. I am the ruler of my life and my future. As someone who grew up in the Disney generation of mystified little girls who are told in order to matter, and to be happy you need some rich, powerful man to run your life. Otherwise you’ll end up a lonely old maid who’s bound to be a villain. I decided this wasn’t for me. I am no princess, I don’t need a prince, I am the king, and I am perfectly happy being enough for me. I believe we are all water, just as we are all the driving force of our future. Keeping the river systems clean and intact is vital to a healthy future for the dependent habitats in Utah. Whether chemical, physical, or social, pollutants come in many forms and just like I turned away from the unspoken expectations that followed me, we need to turn away from the unseen damage of pollutants to the local water systems. We are enough for ourselves, the rivers should be enough for us.

My portrait is a representation of who I am inside though I don’t show it all of the time. I just chose colors that made my brown skin pop because I love my brown skin and that is what makes me me. I chose the green dress because my favorite color is green and that color really makes my skin look gorgeous. I drew her as a confident young black woman because that is the message that I want to give to all my fellow brown skin girls all over the world. That it is ok to be yourself and dress how you want to and show off your bad ass characteristics and let the world know that you are you and no one is going to change that. Life would not be possible without water and water helps us complete a lot of simple task[s] in life that we could not do without it. So how do you think that you can help to make water a bigger contributor in your community. N.S.

We are Water, I am Sun. This piece represents the Sun, and the Sun represents me. All the reds, oranges, and yellows represent the rays of the Sun. The Sun is a little on edge, and so am I. I want everyone to know that our water is our source or living and without it we would be suffering; and so will our Earth. So, let’s keep it clean an healthy. S.M.

My piece represents me I chose to do it like this because I didn’t know how to do a portrait of my face so I chose to do my Siberian Husky Mika, we are alike in a lot of ways were really hyper we love attention and cant stant being left alone for long. The reason I put a suit is because it reminds me of my Grandpa hes a great role mdel in my life, The blue eyes remind me of both my grandmas. Around 60% of our body is made up of water and we can only live three to five days without fluids. z.p.

This pictures represents one of my Idols. His name is XXXTentaction and he has inspired me to get out of the system and do better. The stopwatch represents all the time wasted when we could have changed out life or our world. The tree means the tree of life and how we are all connected and we are kelt alive by water.

I drew myself like this Because thats who I am, And that’s how I look kinda. I feel like like the Jordan river is dirty it has alot of dirty stuff, especially Because people just through stuff in the river, And one thing that I think about the great salt lake had alot of water not that long ago Now it’s almost unto nothing. It’s almost Gone. The river going thru my face represents how far I came from all the stuff I went through. A reason why the great salt lake is losing water is because people are using to much water.

Why I did this is because I live in Utah. There are beautiful mountains in Utah. The downtown is pretty cool and the guy in Jail is because I am locked up.

I made mine like that because, I had no other idea how to do it, Just something simple for a simple person. I left my portrait plain because I feel that life is sometimes plain, but as you can see the three dots on my face that I have tatted meaning I have had a crazy life. Just how the world is.

I chose the colors for all of my family. And for people that Have Died in my Life (mostly family). I Put the river over my artwork. It stands for all of the struggles that I Have been through and the struggles that I Am over coming in my Life. I put the scars on there for the Pain that I am trying to over come or that I have yet to face in my near future. In my Time of growing up all I wanted to be a good ball player but I was always Told that I am not good enough To be a good basketball player like Lebron James but I did not let that get me down I Pushed myself to become better at ball.

This portrait is not me, it is E.D. When I hear about the Salt Lake I make jokes (I’m from South Dakota). But, it is not funny. What does this have to do with E.D.? When I think about S.D. I think about her. Then I think about how fortunate I am to live in a close to unaffected state.

Looking in the mirror! I chose the Joker because that is what i am a joker a class clown. the money because i do like money. The free Zala because free me The wall saying save us because water is our life source and if we save the water we save us. The diamond because pressure and stress makes a diamond. The balloon just because! The all seeing eye because we need to watch our actions more. The water segment goes through the middle because water is Key. The water segment adds character and strength.

This Is my “Fish tank of Life.” In the fish tank there are 6 Living fish, 3 dead fish, and 1 dieing fish. My Life has Heavily Involved sports that’s why I included the sports equipment. There are a basket ball, baseball bat, and Hoop. There is also Locks on the Closets to show that I am in Lock up. The “treasure chest in the corner is supposed to show my hope for success in the future. Hopefully some day I will be wealthy. The Segment of the Jordan river Looked Like a snake to me so I glued it in near the snakes Head. I chose segment 46 because I Have been fishing there frequently. Near the golf course at thanksgiving point during the flower festival in 2021 and 2022.

We are all water. Each of the colors in my cutout of an area of the jordan river represents the different types of pollution that takes place in the river that we should each notice. The self-portrait is a representation of my identity and how I am not only a person but a person within the community. The earth on the face taking place of where the eye should be is metaphorical imagery for how we should see the world in its entirety, and not take it for granted, and realize the effects we have on our planet The fish and plants represent the ecosystems that suffer if we do not make changes, and try to come up with ways to minimize the damage or fix things to prevent more harm. Each of us is responsible for the damage and pollution of each of our communities rivers and lakes. We can’t reverse the damage, but we can make change so we don’t cause more. Hopefully, this gives you something to think about on the individual changes you can make. We can each make a difference. -Rylee
