The week before Halloween, Dr. Tianli Feng joined STEMCAP to present at Mill Creek Youth Center in Ogden – our newest youth center partnership. New to Utah, Dr. Feng works in the Mechanical Engineering department at the University of Utah campus. He studies the engineering of materials – developing molecularly distinct substances that can withstand high heat. Dr. Feng explained to the students that the advancement of faster and more efficient vehicular travel and space travel depends on the development of heat-resistant materials.
After telling the students that they should feel free to ask any questions about any and all science topics, the students were very curious about the limits and possibilities of space travel, asking about the habitability – and the ability to explore – other planets in our solar system.
