Farmington Bay Youth Center welcomed two incredible guests in February to present a virtual Art Science workshop! Cindy Barba, a virologist from the Huntsman Cancer Research Center, and Josh Graham, an artist and art historian from the University of Utah, collaborated to talk about the relationship between nature and science to create unique artworks. Using colored bacteria, students drew using inoculator rods onto agar plates – drawing virtually invisible images. Students are able to learn about the nature of bacteria growth, but also discover this medium of artwork that partners with natural elements and behaviors – including waiting for growth (and an image!) over time– not knowing what the final image will be.
