Biographical Info

Dr. Feng is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah. He is the leader of the Multiscale Energy Transport, Conversion, and Storage (MEX) Lab. The MEX Lab aims to solve the long-standing challenges in ultra-high-temperature thermal barrier coatings, thermal protections of hypersonic vehicles, nuclear materials, thermal management of electronic devices, thermoelectric energy harvesting, building energy efficiency, lithium-ion batteries, etc. Dr. Feng is passionate about sharing his new scientific discoveries as well as his knowledge in all the areas of science with the public in a simple and interesting way.

Tianli Feng presented for the first time with STEMCAP in the Fall of 2021 at Mill Creek Youth Center in Ogden. He gave an introduction to his research in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah. After detailing to students the “problem” of heat in material development, he shared the ways that his lab attempts to solve those problems by developing new materials and devising synthesized solutions to growing technological advancement.
