Biographical Info

Emmett Wilson uses they/them pronouns and is a body-based artist from Houston. They moved to Salt Lake City, where they earned a BFA from the University of Utah in Modern dance with minors in Environmental Studies as well as Portuguese & Brazilian Studies. Their practice hinges on compassionate communication and organization as the Community Garden Coordinator of the Salt Lake City Public Library (SLCPL) as well as a board member and choreographer for Deseret Experimental Opera. This practice is also the basis of Emmett’s teaching principles; they have designed and facilitated embodiment workshops for the Out Loud youth group at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, for Alphabet Soup at SLCPL, for STEMCAP, and while touring solo performance work at various D.I.Y. spaces in SLC & Moab, UT, Brooklyn, NY, and Richmond, VA.

Emmett partnered with Allison Anholt, a scientist from the University of Utah, to deliver an Art-Science workshop in which Allison spoke about the concepts of migration, movement, and flocking, including the unknown scientific principles behind “murmuration,” or animals moving all together in many directions. Emmett translated these concepts into movement activities illustrating murmuration and predator avoidance.
